Restoring puts your website files, database, or email accounts back to the state they were in when the backup was taken. It overwrites whatever currently exists in that area, so use it when something has broken or you need to undo a change, not as a routine task.
In cPanel
- Log in to cPanel and open the Backup tool.
- Under Restore, choose the type of backup you have: Home Directory, MySQL Database, or one of the email options.
- Click Choose File, select the backup archive from your computer, and click Upload.
- Wait for the upload and restore process to complete. Do not close the browser tab or navigate away while it's running.
A full account archive generated in cPanel format needs to be restored by ZIPROF support rather than through the Backup page, since it requires server-level access. Open a support ticket and attach or reference the backup file if you need a full account restored.
In DirectAdmin
- Log in to DirectAdmin and open Backup/Restore.
- Click Restore, then Upload backup from local computer and select your archive, or choose it if it's already stored on the server.
- Select which parts of the backup to restore, such as domains, databases, or email.
- Click Restore and wait for the job to finish.
Restoring a database overwrites all current data in it with the version from the backup. If the backup is older than you expect, you'll lose any orders, posts, or form submissions made since it was taken. Check the backup's date before restoring.
If you're not sure which backup to use or the restore fails partway through, contact ZIPROF support with the account name and roughly when you'd like the site restored to, rather than repeatedly retrying the upload.
