How to Add an FAQ Section to Your Website

An FAQ section lets visitors find answers to common questions, such as pricing, delivery times, or how a service works, without having to contact you directly. It also keeps your product or service pages shorter and easier to scan. You can add one whether your website runs on WordPress or is built with plain HTML.

You can put your FAQ section on its own page, such as a dedicated "FAQ" page, or add it near the bottom of a specific page, like a product, service, or pricing page, where those questions are most likely to come up.

Why Add an FAQ Section

A well-written FAQ section reduces repetitive customer queries, builds trust with first-time visitors, and can help your pages appear in Google's expanded search results when paired with structured data (more on that below).

Adding an FAQ Section in WordPress

If your website runs on WordPress, you have two straightforward options.

Option 1: Use the Built-In Details Block

Recent versions of the WordPress block editor include a native toggle block you can use without any plugin.

  1. Open the page or post where you want the FAQ section, in the WordPress admin.
  2. Click the + icon to add a new block and search for Details.
  3. Type your question in the summary line and your answer in the body area below it.
  4. Add one Details block for each question, then click Update or Publish.
If your theme doesn't style the Details block attractively, you can add simple custom CSS through Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS to adjust spacing, borders, or the toggle icon.

Option 2: Use a Dedicated FAQ Plugin

If you want ready-made accordion styling and extra layout options, a plugin is faster to set up.

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for an FAQ or accordion plugin, check its reviews and installation count, then click Install Now and Activate.
  3. Follow the plugin's instructions to add your questions and answers, then insert its block or shortcode into the page where you want the FAQ section to appear.

Adding an FAQ Section to a Plain HTML Website

If your site isn't built on WordPress, you can add a working FAQ accordion with plain HTML, no JavaScript required, using the native details and summary tags.

  1. Open your website's page file using your hosting account's file manager or an FTP client.
  2. Add a block of HTML similar to this for each question:
<details>
  <summary>Your question here?</summary>
  <p>Your answer here.</p>
</details>
  1. Repeat the block for each question you want to include, then save the file.
  2. Optionally, add a small amount of CSS to style the border, spacing, and toggle arrow so it matches the rest of your site's design.

Making Your FAQ Section Help Your SEO Too

Once your FAQ content is live, you can mark it up with FAQ structured data so search engines can potentially show your questions and answers directly in search results. See What Is Schema Markup (Structured Data) and How Do You Add It to Your Website? for how to add it.

Keep FAQ answers short and specific. A long, vague answer is less likely to earn a featured spot in search results and less useful to the visitor reading it.
