How to Back Up and Restore an App Installed with Softaculous

Any application installed through Softaculous, such as WordPress, can be backed up and restored from within Softaculous itself, separate from any full-account backup your hosting plan includes. This is worth doing before a risky update, like a major theme change or a plugin known to cause conflicts, since it lets you roll back that one application quickly without involving a full site restore.

In cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Softaculous Apps Installer.
  2. Click All Installations in the left-hand menu to see every app Softaculous has installed on the account.
  3. Find the installation you want to back up and click the Backup icon next to it.
  4. Choose what to include (files, database, or both) and click Backup Installation.
  5. To restore later, go back to All Installations, click the Backups icon for that app, and choose Restore next to the backup you want.

In DirectAdmin

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin and open Softaculous Apps Installer.
  2. Click All Installations to list installed apps.
  3. Click the Backup icon next to the app you want to protect, select what to back up, and confirm.
  4. To restore, open the backups list for that installation and select Restore next to the backup you want to bring back.

Where backups are stored

Softaculous stores its backups on your hosting account's own disk space by default, which counts against your account's storage quota. If you are low on space, remove old Softaculous backups you no longer need from the same Backups screen, or download a copy to your computer first if you want to keep it elsewhere.

Softaculous backups cover the application itself, not your full hosting account. For complete protection, including email accounts and files outside Softaculous-managed apps, use your hosting plan's full account backup as well, which ZIPROF configures separately from Softaculous.
