Softaculous

How to Uninstall an App Installed with Softaculous

If you installed WordPress, Joomla, or another application through Softaculous and no longer need it, you can remove it directly from Softaculous rather than deleting files manually. This cleans up the application's files and, if you choose, its database too, so nothing is left behind to cause confusion later.

Uninstalling an app through Softaculous is permanent. It deletes the application's files and can delete its database. Take a backup first if there is any chance you will want the content again.

Before You Uninstall

Softaculous can create a backup of the app as part of certain actions, but it does not automatically back up an app before removing it. Take a full backup of the app first so you have a copy to fall back on.

How to Uninstall an App with Softaculous

In cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel and scroll to the Software section.
  2. Click Softaculous Apps Installer, or click directly on the icon for the app you want to remove (for example, the WordPress icon).
  3. In the Softaculous screen, click All Installations in the top menu. This lists every app you have installed through Softaculous on the account.
  4. Find the installation you want to remove and click the red trash can icon next to it.
  5. On the removal confirmation page, review the checkboxes. You can choose to Remove Database, Remove related Cron Jobs, and have Softaculous email you the removal details.
  6. Click Remove Installation to confirm.

In DirectAdmin

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin and open Softaculous Apps Installer from the Extras or Advanced Features section, depending on your account's theme.
  2. Click All Installations in the top menu to see every app installed on the account.
  3. Find the installation you want to remove and click the red trash can icon next to it.
  4. On the removal confirmation page, choose whether to Remove Database and Remove related Cron Jobs, then confirm.
  5. Click Remove Installation to finish.

What Happens After You Uninstall

Softaculous deletes the application's files from the folder it was installed in. If you selected the option to remove the database, that is deleted too. The domain, subdomain, or folder the app used becomes free for a new installation. Deleting the installation record from Softaculous does not cancel your hosting or delete the domain itself, only the application and, optionally, its data.

If you want a copy of the app to keep or move elsewhere before removing it, see how to back up and restore an app installed with Softaculous.
