DirectAdmin shows your current disk space and bandwidth (data transfer) usage right on your account dashboard, and in more detail under the Statistics section. Checking these regularly helps you catch a problem, like a runaway log file or a sudden traffic spike, before it affects your website.
Checking Your Disk Space Usage
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- On the main dashboard, find the Account Information panel near the top of the page. It shows a usage bar for Disk Space, listing how much you have used against your plan's total allowance.
- For a breakdown of what is taking up space, go to Account Manager and click Disk Usage. This lists space used by your website files, email accounts, databases, and backups separately, so you can see exactly what to clean up.
Checking Your Bandwidth (Data Transfer) Usage
- From the same Account Information panel on your dashboard, look for the Bandwidth usage bar. This tracks the total data transferred in and out of your hosting account for the current billing month.
- To see which days or months used the most bandwidth, go to Account Manager and click Bandwidth. This gives you a monthly breakdown so you can spot unusual spikes.
Bandwidth usage resets to zero at the start of each billing cycle. Disk space usage does not reset: it stays at whatever level your files, email, and databases currently occupy, so it only goes down when you actually delete something.
What to Do If You're Running Low
- Delete old backup files, unused website files, and anything sitting in the file manager's trash.
- Check your email accounts individually: large mailboxes with years of attachments are a common cause of high disk usage.
- Remove old database backups you no longer need, especially if you take manual backups before big changes.
- If your website's genuine traffic has grown, or your files have grown past what your current plan allows, you may need to move up to a plan with a higher allowance.
