Email forwarding sends a copy of every message that arrives at one address on to another mailbox, without you needing to log in and check the original account separately. It's commonly used to route a generic address like info@yourdomain.com to a staff member's personal inbox, or to keep receiving mail at an old address after switching to a new one.
In cPanel
- Log in to cPanel and open the Forwarders tool.
- Click Add Forwarder.
- Enter the address you want to forward from, and choose your domain from the dropdown.
- Under Destination, select Forward to Email Address and enter the address that should receive the copies.
- Click Add Forwarder to save.
In DirectAdmin
- Log in to DirectAdmin and open Email Forwarders under the Email section.
- Click Create Forwarder.
- Enter the username part of the address you're forwarding from, and the full destination address in the Forwards to field.
- Click Create.
A forwarder only copies mail on to another address. It does not create a mailbox of its own, so you can't log in to it directly, and there's no separate password to manage.
To forward mail to more than one address, most control panels let you enter multiple destination addresses separated by a comma when creating the forwarder. If you'd rather keep the original mailbox and just have a second copy sent elsewhere, forwarding is the right tool. If you want to permanently move an address to a new destination and stop it from using local storage, ask ZIPROF support about setting up mail routing instead.
