Missing a due date on a ZIPROF invoice doesn't mean instant loss of your service, but it does start a sequence of steps you should be aware of. Here's what happens and how to recover quickly if it happens to you.
Grace Period
Most invoices have a short grace period after the due date before any action is taken on the related service. During this time, the invoice simply shows as overdue in your client area, and you'll typically receive a reminder notice.
Service Suspension
If payment still hasn't been received after the grace period, the affected service is suspended. What this looks like depends on the service:
- Hosting: Your website and email may stop working, and visitors could see a suspension page instead of your site.
- Domain: The domain may stop resolving, which also breaks any email or website depending on it, even if that email or website is hosted elsewhere.
Suspension is reversible: your files, databases, and email accounts are not deleted at this stage, just made inactive.
Reactivating After Payment
Once the outstanding invoice is paid, usually via MPesa Paybill using the invoice number as the account number, the service is reactivated. This generally happens automatically within a few minutes of payment being confirmed. If it doesn't reactivate promptly, contact support with your MPesa confirmation message.
Domain-Specific Risk
Domains carry an additional risk beyond suspension: if a domain renewal invoice goes unpaid for long enough past expiry, the domain can eventually be released and become available for anyone else to register. The exact timeline varies by domain extension, so a lapsed domain invoice deserves faster attention than most other billing issues.
If you know in advance that you'll have trouble paying an invoice by its due date, contact support before it's overdue. It's easier to arrange a short extension proactively than to recover a suspended or expired service after the fact.
