If your website feels slow, or you've seen a 509 Resource Limit Reached error, checking your account's resource usage tells you exactly what's causing it: too much CPU, too many running processes, or too much memory being used at once. Both cPanel and DirectAdmin let you view this from your control panel, without needing to contact support first.
What Resource Usage Actually Shows You
Shared hosting accounts run on a server with other websites, so each account is given a fair share of CPU, memory, and process limits. The resource usage tool shows how close you are to those limits, broken down by category such as CPU usage, physical memory (RAM), number of processes, entry processes, I/O usage, and IOPS (input/output operations per second).
In cPanel
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Scroll to the Metrics section on the main dashboard.
- Click Resource Usage.
- Use the time range selector at the top (last hour, last day, or last week) to see how usage has changed over time.
- Review each graph. A category that's frequently near 100% is the one causing slowdowns or limit errors.
In DirectAdmin
- Log in to your DirectAdmin account.
- Look for Resource Usage in the left-hand menu, usually under the account or statistics section.
- Select the resource you want to review, such as CPU, memory, or number of processes.
- Check the usage graphs for spikes or sustained high usage over the selected period.
If you don't see a Resource Usage option in your control panel, contact ZIPROF support and ask for a usage report for your account.
What to Do If You're Close to Your Limit
- Check for a WordPress plugin, script, or cron job that's running constantly or firing too often.
- Disable or remove plugins and scripts you don't actually need.
- Make sure caching is enabled on your website to reduce repeated processing for the same pages.
- If your traffic has genuinely grown, consider whether your current plan still fits your needs.
