How to Update the Contact Email Address on Your Hosting Account

Your hosting control panel keeps a contact email address separate from your website itself. It's where automated alerts go: low disk space warnings, backup completion notices, bandwidth limit warnings, and security notifications. If that address is outdated, or was never set, you could miss a warning until it becomes a real problem, like your site going down because storage filled up. Here's how to update it in both control panels.

In cPanel

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Under the Preferences section, click Contact Information.
  3. Enter your current email address in the First Contact Email Address field. If you want alerts to reach a second inbox too, add it under Second Contact Email Address.
  4. Scroll down and check which notification types you want to receive, such as low disk space, bandwidth limit warnings, and account login notices.
  5. Click Save.
cPanel may send a verification link to a newly added address before some alert types become fully active. If notifications don't seem to arrive after saving, check the new inbox (and its spam folder) for that confirmation email.

In DirectAdmin

  1. Log in to your DirectAdmin account.
  2. Open Account Information from the main menu (sometimes listed under your username).
  3. Find the E-mail field and replace it with your current address.
  4. Click Save to apply the change.

This Is Not Your ZIPROF Account Email

It's easy to mix these up. The address you set above only controls alerts generated by the control panel itself, cPanel or DirectAdmin. It has no effect on the email ZIPROF uses for your invoices, renewal reminders, or client area login.

If you also need to update the email on file with your ZIPROF account, see How to Update Your ZIPROF Account and Contact Details.

Why It's Worth Doing Now

A current contact email is one of the simplest ways to avoid surprises. It's what lets you act before a disk space or bandwidth issue takes your site offline, and it's how you'd find out quickly if something unusual happens with your account, like an unrecognized login.

If you've recently changed jobs, switched staff, or simply used a personal email when the account was first set up, it's worth checking this setting even if you don't remember ever configuring it.
