What Happens to Your Website and Files After You Cancel Your ZIPROF Hosting Plan

Cancelling your ZIPROF hosting plan stops the service from renewing, but it does not erase your files the moment you click confirm. Your website, emails, and databases usually stay on the server for a short grace period before they are permanently removed, giving you a window to back everything up or change your mind.

What happens right after you cancel

Once a cancellation is processed, a few things happen in order:

  1. Your hosting account stops renewing, so no further invoices are generated for that service.
  2. Your website and any email accounts on that hosting plan go offline once the current billing period ends (or immediately, if you requested an immediate cancellation).
  3. Your account enters a grace period before the account and its data are permanently deleted from the server.
The exact length of the grace period can vary. Check your cancellation confirmation message or ask your ZIPROF support ticket for the specific date your data will be permanently removed, rather than assuming a fixed number of days.

Your files, databases, and emails

While your account is active during the grace period, your website files, MySQL databases, and mailbox contents are usually still intact on the server, even though the site itself may already be offline. Once the grace period ends, all of this is deleted and cannot be recovered. This includes:

  • Website files in your public_html folder and any other directories.
  • All MySQL databases tied to the account.
  • Email messages stored on the server for any mailbox on that hosting account.

If there is anything on the account you might need later, take a full backup and download a copy of your emails before the grace period runs out, not after.

What happens to your domain name

Your domain registration and your hosting plan are two separate services, even if you bought them together. Cancelling hosting does not cancel or delete your domain. If your domain is registered through ZIPROF, it keeps running on its own renewal cycle. If you plan to move your website elsewhere, you will need to update the domain's DNS records or nameservers to point to wherever you host it next, since they will not update automatically just because the old hosting account was cancelled.

If you're moving to a new host

If the cancellation is because you're switching providers, do things in this order so your website and email stay available throughout:

  1. Take a full backup of your website files and databases, and export or download your email messages.
  2. Set up your website (and email, if needed) on the new host first.
  3. Point your domain's DNS or nameservers to the new host.
  4. Only then cancel the ZIPROF hosting plan, once you've confirmed everything works on the new side.

Cancelling before your new setup is ready risks losing access to your files during the switch.

Changed your mind?

If you cancel and then decide you want to keep the account after all, contact ZIPROF support as soon as possible. Reversing a cancellation is usually only possible while the account is still within its grace period, before the data is permanently deleted.
